[Softball] Lady Bulldogs finish 3rd in AAC Championships

0

The Lady Bulldogs had a good showing in the Appalachian Athletic conference tournament finishing 3rd.

TWU won their first game over Point University, 3-2.  A three-run outburst in the third was all No. 4 seed Tennessee Wesleyan needed to scoot by fifth-seeded Point in the opener.  Down 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Baylee Sutton doubled to deep-right center field to drive in two runs to put Tennessee Wesleyan up. Alyssa King followed with a RBI double to up the margin to 3-1.  It remained a two-run game until the fifth when Point scored off an Amber Anderson groundout. With runners on the corners and one out, Anderson grounded out to short to allow Leslie Hinkle to come home and make it a 3-2 game.   Point made things interesting in the seventh, though. With two outs, the Skyhawks collected a single and a walk to put two on. However, reliever Hanna Manley struck the final batter out looking to seal the 3-2 win.   Rachel Mathews picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits and one walk in six innings of work. Manley notched her second save of the season, striking out three.
