[Softball] SAU stops skid with 9-3 win at Roosevelt
St. Ambrose snapped its five-game losing streak with a 9-3 win at Roosevelt in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday. The Lakers won the opener 7-6 after a late rally.
The Bees got production up and down the order with Christina Pembrook leading the way in the second game. The sophomore went 3-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate, and got the win after allowing just one earned run over seven innings.
Pembrook got SAU on the board in the third. With the Bees trailing 1-0 and runners on the corners, she singled to right and when the ball got past the right fielder, all three runners scored.
In the sixth, with the lead trimmed to 3-2, St. Ambrose broke things open. Katyn Pica-Johnson started the inning with a triple to right. Madelyn Thompson walked and stole second. Ashley Yattoni followed with an RBI single. Two outs later, Anna Boffeli had a big double to left to score a pair to push the lead to 6-2. Pembrook followed with a double in the left-center field gap to score Boffeli for a 7-2 lead.
In the seventh, Pica-Johnson singled and Sophia Perea drew a walk. They eventually scored on a wild pitch and throwing error by the catcher for the final two Bee runs.
Yattoni joined Pica-Johnson and Pembrook with multi-hit games. Pembrook struck out four in moving to 6-5 on the season.
