Sencer not short on skills for Cohoes

0

Lily Sencer is a senior shortstop for the Cohoes softball team.

A 2016 Times Union small-school first team all-star after hitting .568 as a junior, Sencer is competing in her fifth varsity season with the Tigers and is set to play Division I softball at the University of Hartford, which plays in the America East Conference.

Once in college, Sencer will be going up against Cohoes senior pitcher Isabelle DeChiaro, her cousin, who is headed to the University at Albany.

Cohoes is seeking its first sectional title since winning the Class BB crown in 2014.

When you were brought up to the varsity as an eighth-grader, how did you feel when coach Frank Ryan informed you?

Playing in the Colonial Council offers good competition, but coach Ryan also schedules difficult opponents outside of league competition.

A lot of coaches wouldn't schedule games outside the league that can easily be lost.

How fortunate do you feel to be pushed like that?

Being a lefty slap hitter is not the easiest thing to do.

Cohoes has enjoyed success and had a few painful playoff losses during your career.

What is the mindset regarding your final season?

When it came time to make the college decision, was it a thought of playing with your cousin?

Yes, it was definitely hard because we always wanted to play together until we couldn't play any more.
