Top-10 WBSC Softball World Cup Plays of the Year: Mexico star Aylin Peregrino steals the show
Aylin Peregrino delivered one of the standout defensive performances of the year during the WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup 2025, producing two spectacular diving catches that elevated Mexico’s campaign and impressed the global softball community.
Her top highlight came with two outs in the bottom of the third inning of Mexico’s game against Czechia. With the potential game-tying run on second base, Anna Ringlerova lifted a fly ball into shallow center field. Peregrino sprinted forward and made a full-extension diving catch to rob a crucial RBI single and preserve Mexico’s lead. The Americas team went on to win the game, 4–1.
Two days later, during the Bronze Medal Game, the 15-year-old did it again. Peregrino denied USA’s Ashley Bronowicz a base hit with another spectacular diving grab in the bottom of the sixth inning, earning the No. 6 spot in the top-10 plays of the year.
The WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Finals appears six times in the top-10, showcasing a variety of elite defensive plays across the infield and outfield—the hallmark of the premiere men’s softball competition in the world. Matt Harrow (AUS, No. 10), Cole Evans (NZL, No. 8), Tane Mumu (NZL, No. 3), and Ryuji Okawa (JPN, No. 2) delivered exceptional infield moments, while Tyler Johnson (USA, No. 7) and Lucio Retamar (ARG, No. 4) made acrobatic diving catches in right field.
Japan makes another appearance through second baseman Yiumi Oga (JPN, No. 9), who executed a smooth defensive play at Devon Park during the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Finals. Rounding out the list is U-15 pitcher Maci Barnes (USA, No. 5), who made a head-first catch on a bunt attempt.
