Baseball, Softball, Baseball5 continue to grow across Uruguay
Between May and November 2025, the development of Baseball, Softball and Baseball5 in Uruguay experienced remarkable growth with the national federation's joint efforts with local clubs proving instrumental in promoting the game at the grassroots level, engaging children and youth in regular training, and fostering inclusion and community spirit through sport.
Promoting participation and inclusion through Baseball5
Weekly training sessions and outreach workshops brought Baseball5 to new audiences across Montevideo and Maldonado. The sport was introduced in several schools, including public institutions such as Schools No. 130, 245, 249 and especially No. 240, which serves children with intellectual disabilities.
With support from the Municipality E Education and Sports Coordination, Baseball5 is now expected to be included in the 2026 school curriculum, with friendly and exhibition matches scheduled every two months. These initiatives highlight the sport’s adaptability and its power to promote inclusion and teamwork.
Strengthening Baseball foundations
Baseball training sessions were held weekly at Parque Rivera, led by coaches Daniel Andres Armao, Randy Navas and Roger Pinare. The Winners and Caribe academies (pictured above) fielded mixed and youth teams for players aged 4 to 16, emphasizing technical skills such as pitching, hitting and fielding — as well as values like discipline, respect and passion for the game.
Regular inter-school friendlies between Winners and Caribe, played every two weeks, attracted over 40 young players and their families, helping consolidate a vibrant local baseball community.
Inclusive Softball and community spirit
The Winners school also conducted inclusive weekly Softball practices at Parque Rivera, bringing together women’s team members with children and teenagers in a collaborative learning environment. Monthly Sunday matches became a space for shared experience, mentorship and continuous development, involving more than 20 players each time.
Historic joint events
On 2 August, 2025, Parque Rivera hosted a milestone event — the first-ever joint sports day among the training schools Winners, ACJ and Caribe. The day featured friendly Baseball5, Softball and Baseball games, marking a memorable celebration of teamwork and unity.
Later, on 25 October, 2025, Caribe put on a Baseball exhibition during the Family Fun Day at the Uruguayan American School, opening the door for Baseball to be introduced as an extracurricular activity beginning in January, 2026.
To close the season, on 1 November, Winners, ACJ and Baseball5 Uruguay Maldonado gathered at ACJ Portones for another friendly Baseball5 event with more than 28 participants, showcasing the technical and tactical progress achieved throughout the year.
