Brisbane to host Australia vs Chinese Taipei in International Softball Series
World No. 10 Australia will play six games against No. 6 Chinese Taipei in an International Softball Series to be held in Brisbane from 22 to 26 November. The series will feature two doubleheaders on 22 and 23 November, with the final two games scheduled for 25 and 26 November.
Both teams are getting ready for the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup 2026/2027, which will start with the Group Stage next year. The groups will be played in Prague, Czechia; Lima, Peru; and Oklahoma City, USA.
The two top-10-world-ranked teams last met in 2023 during the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Group A in Ireland, where Australia claimed two wins (5-0 and 4-3), eliminating Chinese Taipei from the World Cup Finals 2024. Chinese Taipei are coming off a historic silver medal campaign at The World Games Chengdu 2025.
Australia has taken centre stage recently in the international women’s softball scene. In August, Redcliffe in Queensland was awarded the hosting rights for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027. The event will take place at Talobilla Park, just 45 minutes outside Brisbane, with the top eight teams in the world battling for the world title from 5 to 11 April 2027.
Additionally, Australia and World No. 2 USA have announced the USA Down Under International Softball Series, a four-day international friendly to be staged in Brisbane from 31 December 2025 to 3 January 2026.
A year ago, Australia won a five-game series against China by 3-2, also played in Brisbane.
One of the world’s softball superpowers, Australia has played a key role in the sport’s history. With the World Cup Finals returning to Australia in 2027, the biggest event in world softball will come back to its origins. The first WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup was held at Albert Park in Melbourne in February 1965, with five participating teams: Australia, Japan, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and USA. In one of the fiercest battles in softball history, Australia defeated USA 1-0 on 21 February 1965 to claim the inaugural world title.
Australia once again took the spotlight during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, hosting an unforgettable softball competition and winning the second of four consecutive Olympic medals.
