Argentina, Mexico share gold at rained-out U-23 Men’s Softball Pan Am Championship; Canada, Venezuela join them at 2026 World Cup
The last game of the round robin between Argentina and Mexico was halted on Friday night and could not resume on Saturday, forcing WBSC Americas to call an end to the U-23 Men’s Softball Pan American Championship and declare both teams co-champions. Canada claimed the silver medal and Venezuela the bronze, as all four teams secured qualification for next year’s World Cup in Sincelejo, Colombia.
The matchup between world No. 3 Argentina and No. 9 Mexico was expected to decide the top three positions in the round robin and therefore determine the finalists and bronze medal contenders. Both squads entered the game tied atop the standings with a 5-1 record. However, play was suspended with the score locked at 1-1, leaving the round robin unfinished. As a result, Argentina and Mexico shared the title.
Second place went to No. 4 Canada, who defeated No. 2 Venezuela, 5-1, on Friday night to finish with a 5-2 record. Venezuela concluded with a 4-3 mark, earning the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Argentina, Mexico, Canada, and Venezuela will join the field at the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup 2026, scheduled for 25 April to 3 May in Sincelejo, Colombia. They will be joined by No. 1 Japan, No. 6 Australia, No. 7 New Zealand, No. 8 Czechia, No. 11 Singapore, No. 13 Colombia (hosts), and No. 18 Denmark. The final participant will be determined at the Africa Qualifier.
For the second consecutive time, the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup will be staged in South America. The inaugural edition took place in Parana, Argentina, in April 2023, where Australia were crowned world champions, with Japan taking silver and Argentina bronze.
This historic event will mark the first time Colombia hosts a WBSC Softball tournament.
