Meet the SCSL 2025 Executive Board Candidates
Commissioner (2026-2027)
Becca Powers (She/Her)
Written Statement: “Hi Everyone,
Most of you know me, but for those who don’t — I’m Becca, and I currently manage the Conundrums. I’ve been a proud member of the Steel City Softball League for over 20 years. Throughout that time, I’ve had the privilege of serving in several roles on the executive board, including Membership Chair and, most recently, Assistant Commissioner of our C Division.
I’m running for Commissioner because Steel City has given me so much — more than just a team or a league. It gave me a safe space in my early days, a place where I truly began to understand what it means to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Through the league, I’ve found lifelong friends and a chosen family that has brought immense joy to my life.
As Commissioner, I want to ensure that every person who comes through this league has the opportunity to feel that same sense of belonging, safety, and community. Now more than ever, our queer spaces matter. We must work together to preserve and grow them — not just for ourselves, but for the next generation.
We are more than just softball — we are a community. And while that community is the heart of our league, we must also remember that we are a softball league. That means we have real challenges to face and real work to do. Two of the biggest issues right now are fields and ratings — both of which directly affect the player experience. I believe that through open dialogue, transparency, and teamwork, we can tackle these challenges head-on and create fair, lasting solutions for all divisions.
Thank you for your support, and for being part of what makes this league so special.
— Becca”
Commissioner (2026-2027)
Bobby Angelo (He/Him)
Nominated-By Statement: “I am proud to nominate Bobby Angelo for the position of Commissioner of our softball league. Over the years, Bobby has shown an unwavering dedication to our league’s mission, our players, and our community. As treasurer, he has managed our finances with precision, transparency, and integrity—ensuring that every dollar supports the growth and success of our league.
Beyond his financial stewardship, Bobby has consistently gone above and beyond—volunteering countless hours, supporting players and teams, and helping make our events both fun and well-organized. His leadership style is collaborative, approachable, and deeply rooted in fairness.
Bobby Angelo is passionate about continuing the league’s work, building on our strong foundation, and guiding us into an even brighter future. His vision, reliability, and proven track record make him an exceptional choice to serve as our next Commissioner.”
Written Statement: “Hello, I am Bobby Angelo, and I am running for Commissioner of the Steel City Softball League, with the support of my partner, Rodrigo Santos.
Impact
I first want to thank all the previous Commissioners and Board Members that have helped run this amazing league since its inception in 1981. The legacy of this league spans across generations, and we are fortunate enough to have something so special for our community. It’s a bit overwhelming when you stop and think about the impact that this league has had over the years on so many people’s lives. Anyone that has been in the league can talk for hours about the memories they have made with the many friends and family they have formed while being part of the League. Just asked someone: “how did you meet?” and after a few minutes of going through the history of their friendship/relationship, they’ll likely say, “we met at softball”. As a current board member, I try to always remember the responsibility that we have to ensure that this league remains a vibrant and important part of the community and that future generations get to experience the same for many more years. I do not take this responsibility lightly and I assure you that under my watch, I will do everything that I can to make sure this league continues to be a vibrant and important part of our community.
Professional Experience
I am a Senior Manager of Operations at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh, with 13+ years of leadership experience. I am pursuing an Executive Leadership Certificate from Wharton and a Graduate School of Banking Certificate, with plans for an MBA. - Modernized Finances: Implemented QuickBooks, new accounts, and multiple payment systems to ensure transparency and efficiency.
- Rejoined NAGAAA: Led efforts for SCSL to rejoin NAGAAA (iPride Softball), enabling teams to compete in national tournaments.
- Leadership on the Field: Coach/Manager of the Little Pigs C-division team (back-to-back champs, 2024–25), fostering a culture of fun, respect, and inclusivity.
Vision as Commissioner
- Grow the league to 300+ members by 2026 while protecting our LGBTQ+ identity.
- Strengthen divisions: continue to foster and develop the E-division, stabilize D-division with 6+ teams, and expand C-division without diluting culture.
- Finalize fair and accurate player ratings for all divisions.
- Expand community presence with events: Spring Training, Pride Parade, Glitters & Gloves Drag Softball, Annual Tournament, and Pageant.
- Build a strong volunteer base to support events
- Ensure effective, intentional board meetings that respect everyone’s time.

- Explore season structure improvements, including extending play into September or adding Fall Ball.
Closing
The SCSL is more than a league—it’s a community. I promise to protect its culture, grow its reach, and strengthen its future. I would be honored to serve as Commissioner and continue building on our legacy. Please reach out with any questions at bobby@steelcitysoftball.org.
Thank you,
Bobby Angelo”
Assistant Commissioner – Recreational Division (2026-2027)
Matt Jenkins (He/Him)
Nominated-By Statement: “I am honored to nominate Matt Jenkins for the role of Assistant Commissioner of our softball league. Matt has been a pillar of dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship, always putting the league and its members first. Whether on or off the field, he brings people together, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone feels valued.
As a mentor to both teammates and fellow league members, Matt leads by example—offering guidance, encouragement, and a steady hand when challenges arise. His commitment extends beyond our regular season, representing our league with pride as a traveling tournament player and steward of our values.
Matt’s passion, leadership, and proven ability to unite and inspire others make him an outstanding candidate for Assistant Commissioner. I have no doubt that, in this role, he will continue to strengthen our community and help our league thrive.”
Written Statement: “Relevant professional experience: Control Systems Engineer (10 years) and Engineering Manager (5 years) – I have and regularly practice a very solution-oriented mindset, value of comprehensive understanding of a problem to take informed action, understanding of team strengths and cultural dynamics, managing internal politics in service to a larger goal, and adapting to crises with sound prioritization.
How long you’ve played in our league: the 2025 season was my 15th with the league (2011 first season)
The team(s) you’ve played for: SCSL teams: Uhauls (player), Rogues (player), Missed Connections (coach), Twisted Angels (player), Ball Hogs (player/manager), Outcry (player/coach/manager) —- Other iPride league teams: Columbus Pickles, Columbus Cobras, Columbus Platypuses —- tournament teams: Pittsburgh Pride, Pittsburgh Rogues, Pittsburgh Ball Hogs, Pittsburgh Twisted Angels, Cleveland Mustangs, NYC Precious Snowflakes, Columbus/Indy Sluggers (almost certainly a few others I’m neglecting)
What this league means to you: SCSL is the core of my Pittsburgh LGBTQ+ community and a link to a larger national community; softball is what I turned to for building a social circle after graduating college. I’d never played ball before but socialized best through sports, so I gave it a try. I found a really amazing group of people, a network that has seen shared joy and grief across everything from weddings and travels, to first homes and lost friends. Through the connections of the league, I’ve played dozens of tournaments and built a network of fellow players across the country; I’ve gotten to experience so much variation in queer joy and help create a positive space for it here in Pittsburgh. I think the best version of myself is usually the one that shows up for others, and SCSL has always been special for being a place where I’ve been able to bring that out.”
Assistant Commissioner – Recreational Division (2026-2027)
Jenn Halle (She/Her)
Nominated-By Statement: “Jenn joined the Steel City Softball League several years ago, and since then, she has gone out of her way to foster a strong sense of community throughout the league—especially within our E Division. From the start, she has led through consistent acts of kindness and a genuine commitment to inclusivity. Each year, Jenn plays a key role in helping new teams and players find their place in the league, ensuring everyone feels welcome regardless of skill level.
Thanks in no small part to Jenn’s dedication, the E Division is thriving. Her hard work, leadership, and inclusive spirit have made a lasting impact, and I have no doubt that, as Assistant Commissioner, she will continue to strengthen and grow our community.”
Secretary (2026-2027)
Harry Caskey (He/Him)
Written Statement: “My name is Harry Caskey, and I’ve proudly been a member of the Steel City Softball League since 2009. Over the years, this league has become a vital part of my life, a space that not only builds friendships and teamwork but uplifts and affirms our LGBTQIA+ community. I’m running for re-election as Secretary because I deeply believe in the mission of SCSL and want to continue helping it grow with purpose, inclusivity, and transparency.
In my current term, I’ve overseen the league’s digital infrastructure transformation, updating the website, sending newsletters, supporting League Apps, and streamlining communication across platforms. I also authored our league’s Ally Pledge, a document that reinforces our commitment to equity and the queer community. I’ve made it a priority to strengthen how we connect, communicate, and represent ourselves both internally and to the broader Pittsburgh community.
Looking ahead, there’s still alot of work to do and I’m excited to build upon the foundation we’ve set. I plan to continue refining and updating key league documents such as our Bylaws, Code of Conduct, etc. I’ll also focus on formalizing our internal SOPs and committee rubrics to create more consistency across seasons. I believe in making our league sustainable, welcoming, and easy to engage with and I’m ready to continue that work in the upcoming term.”
Membership Chairperson (2026-2027)
Leah McKown (/)
Nominated-By Statement: Leah will provide additional information prior to elections, but I think she would make a great membership chair. She has already grown the league in her two short years with SCSL, taking the Bottoms of the Ninth from a brand new team in 2024 to the largest team in the league in 2025. She recruited a variety of new players to the league and creates an awesome team environment. She has also been organizing team practices for the Bottoms, which she opened up to the entire E division. Her welcoming and kind personality would be a great fit for this position.”
Written Statement: “In March 2024, I walked into my cleanup hitter’s birthday party knowing only a few people. By the end of the night and with the help of some much-needed liquid courage, I walked out with enough new friends to start a full softball team in SCSL’s E Division: the Bottoms of the Ninth (BOT9).
Since that point, participation in SCSL as a Bottom has grown into something that my teammates and I are proud to be a part of. We don’t just play softball on the weekends; we host batting cage parties, hold weekly practices, get together for holidays, organize union campaigns, watch meteor showers, and form friendships that I’d wager will last a lifetime. For me, participating in SCSL represents the starting point of some of my favorite experiences, memories, and relationships. I know this League means as much to so many of you as it does to me and that is why I am running for Membership Chairperson of SCSL.
If elected, I will use what I have learned from launching BOT9 as well as my professional experience in community engagement to support and strengthen existing events, grow the League in numbers, participation, and retention, and embody the words “more than softball” by engaging with the wider community. As Membership Chairperson, I will also center the voices and experiences of team players directly in the execution of these and any other priorities.
Above all, it has been a privilege to co-create a team culture that centers inclusivity, community, and friendship at a time when those things are so desperately needed. This is the same intentionality and thoughtfulness I plan to bring to the position of Membership Chairperson with SCSL.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Looking forward to another great year of softball in 2026,
Leah”
