USA defeated Chinese Taipei 4-0 to open their gold medal defence, behind a stellar start from Rachel Garcia, who threw four hitless, scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

Tiare Jennings led the offence, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored, while Janae Jefferson delivered a two-run single in the second inning to put USA ahead.
