Australia announce roster for The World Games 2025 women’s softball

Softball Australia named the 15 athletes who will represent the country in the women's softball competition at the The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China, from 13 to 17 August.

The Aussie Spirit, ranked 10th in the world, are one of eight teams - along with defending champions and world No. 1 USA; No. 2 Japan; No. 3 Puerto Rico; No. 4 Chinese Taipei; No. 5 Netherlands; No. 6 Canada and No. 12 China - who will participate in the women's softball tournament, which takes place after the men's event, which is scheduled from 6- to 10 August.

Australia finished fourth overall at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, USA. Returning to the 2025 roster are Georgia Hood, Shannon Keevers, Olivia Kuzminski, Kandra Lamb and Tamieka Whitefield.

Pippa Adkins, Keevers, Kandra Lamb, Kaia Parnaby, Madison Scott, Jenna Trim, Shaylan Whatman and Whitefield also featured in the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Finals 2024 where Australia finished seventh while Parnaby also participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games where Australia came fifth.

The World Games in Chengdu come as women's softball (and men's baseball) prepare for its return to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. Softball Australia said the event will provide crucial preparation and exposure for the national team as it builds towards LA28.

“Representing Australia on a global stage is always a privilege, and to do so at the World Games is a tremendous honour for our programme,” said Aussie Spirit Head Coach Kerrie Porter expressing her excitement about the team’s The World Games campaign.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to compete against the best in the world and continue building the identity and strength of the Aussie Spirit.”

Porter said the World Games come at the right time, giving the team something to build on as they look ahead to Los Angeles 2028.

“With women’s softball returning to the Olympics in 2028, this is a crucial step in our long-term vision. We’re focused on developing depth, providing opportunities for emerging talent, and ensuring the team is ready to compete at the highest level.”

Having recently concluded a tour of Japan in preparation for The World Games, Australia will begin their World Games campaign against the No. 2 side in the world on 13 August.
