The 2025 WBSC Men’s World Cup of fastpitch kicks off tomorrow in Prince Albert, Canada, as eight elite teams converge to battle for the ultimate prize in international softball. Over the next six days, these contenders will compete for the coveted title of world champion.
Eight teams earned their spots in 2024 for this prestigious event and will be divided into two pools of four teams each. Pool play runs for the first three days (July 8-10), with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the Super Round (July 11-12). The tournament concludes on July 13 with the medal rounds, featuring the gold and bronze medal games on the final day.
Here are the teams competing:
Pool A | Pool B |
---|---|
Argentina | Australia |
Canada | Dominican Republic |
New Zealand | Japan |
Venezuela | USA |
Action gets underway tomorrow, Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. First game honors go to Japan and the Dominican Republic, in a Pool B matchup. The USA will face defending champions Australia at 4:30 pm, while Canada and New Zealand will square off in the nightcap, which figures to draw the largest crowds, with a large contingent of Canadians rooting for their home team. Estimates are that the crowds will exceed 5,000 fans. (The nightcap is a reprise of the championship game from the 4 Nations Cup competition from Saturday, July 5, in Saskatoon, a game won by host Canada)
