Mia Scott picked by AUSL's Volts to make pro softball debut
AUSTIN (KXAN) — After leading the Texas Longhorns to their first national championship, Mia Scott is taking her one good ACL and heading for professional softball.
Scott will play for the Volts in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League after she was selected from the league's reserve player pool Monday. Scott hit a grand slam for the Longhorns in a 10-4 win over Texas Tech in Game 3 of the Women's College World Series to clinch the national title, capping off an All-American season. She also took this iconic photo of her wrapped-up knee following the championship run, playing a large portion of the season with a torn ACL.
There are four teams in the AUSL's inaugural season — Volts, Bandits, Blaze and Talons — and their games will be broadcast across the ESPN networks and MLB.com.
Scott was added to the roster after the Volts sent former Longhorn catcher Mary Iakopo back to the reserve player pool. The Bandits picked up Iakopo to continue her AUSL career.
Longhorns legend Cat Osterman is the general manager for the Volts. Former Longhorn Bella Dayton plays for the Bandits.
The Volts are scheduled to play the Bandits at Dell Diamond on July 17-20 in Round Rock.
