Section VI softball champions: Lancaster, Orchard Park, Williamsville South, Fredonia, Chautauqua Lake, Forestville
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Softball teams from Lancaster, Orchard Park, Williamsville South, Fredonia, Chautauqua Lake, and Forestville have won Section VI championships.
Section VI champions will host opponents from the Rochester area in regional playoff games this week. Sub-regionals in Class AAA and B are Wednesday at Frontier, where Far West Regional games in Class C and D will be held Friday. The rest of the regionals are Saturday at Grand Island.
Brennah DeWald had three hits and four RBIs to lead Lancaster to a 6-3 victory in the deciding game of the Class AAA championship series against Niagara Falls. Alyssa Brunner pitched a one-hit shutout in the opening game the Legends won 12-0.
Lainey Babich had two hits and an RBI, and Ava Farina pitched a complete game shutout for Orchard Park in its 6-0 win against Frontier in a Class AA title game featuring two teams ranked among the top 10 in the state.
Emma Budzinski and Marissa Valle had RBIs, and Kate Budzinski got the pitching win for Williamsville South in its 5-4 defeat of Frontier in Class A.
Anna Delcamp plated the winning run for Fredonia in its 7-5 victory against Alden in Class B.
Cayzlee Johnson pitched a two-hit shutout and batted in a run for Chautauqua Lake in its 2-0 defeat of Barker for the Class C title.
Megan Gruber's two-hit shutout carried Forestville to a 2-0 win against Ellicottville in Class C. Emily Lillie hit a triple and scored a run.
