0 9

The San Marin High softball team scored twice on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Testa in the sixth inning to get key insurance runs in a 4-1 victory against Novato on Wednesday night.

The Mustangs (16-6, 11-3) wrapped up the league title with the win, edging Redwood for first place on tiebreaker numbers.

Taryn Ellinthorpe pitched the first five innings for San Marin, allowing four hits and an unearned run. Testa came in and pitched the final two innings.

Claire Hannan kept Novato (6-18, 1-13) in the game, pitching six innings and allowing just three hits and no earned runs.

  • Lily Cox pitched four innings and drove in three runs to lead Redwood to an 18-1 victory against Terra Linda on Wednesday. The win ensured Redwood would finish in a first-place tie with San Marin but the Mustangs had the better tiebreaker number. Elle McElreath, Hailey Carlton and Cox had two hits each for Redwood (15-8, 11-3). Ava Brown had two RBIs. Sofia Gonzalez had an RBI for TL (8-13, 2-12).
  • Paige Murphy pitched a complete game to put Archie Williams in the driver’s seat in the race for the No. 3 seed following a 2-1 victory against Tam on Wednesday. Murphy allowed seven hits and struck out six. Parker Conrad and Sam Singer had RBIs for the Peregrine Falcons (17-6, 9-4), who moved a game ahead of MC for third place. Archie Williams hosts Marin Catholic on Thursday and won the first meeting of  the season 3-1 on March 19. Eden Clark pitched a complete game for Tam (12-8, 6-8), striking out nine. Clark also had three of Tam’s five hits. Tam enters next week’s MCAL playoffs as the No. 6 seed.
  • Sophia Everett hit a grand slam and Thomara Drummer struck out 12 hitters to lead San Rafael to a 12-3 victory against Marin Catholic on Wednesday. The win secures the No. 5 seed for San Rafael (12-11, 7-7) in the MCAL playoffs. Gabby Rodriguez also hit a home run. Rodriguez and Gabriella Alvarez had two RBIs apiece. Morgan Carlson had three hits for MC (13-6, 8-5), which can still claim the No. 3 seed if it beats Archie Williams on Thursday.
