LHSAA Softball State Playoffs postponed due to weather
SULPHUR, La. (KLFY) -- The 2025 LHSAA high school softball semifinals began Friday in Sulphur. The first group of games at noon concluded before lightning moved into the area and postponed the last two groups of the day.
#1 Kaplan looked to continue their march back to the Division III Non-Select state title game for the first time since 2023. Their efforts would fall short against #5 Doyle, as they defeated the Pirates 13-3.
On the other side of the Division III Non-Select bracket was #3 Jena and #2 Pine Prairie. Kiette Cooper had a stellar outing on the mound for the Giants, helping Jena advance to the State Championship game with a 3-2 win in the semifinals.
#3 Notre Dame was back in the Division III Select semifinals for the first time since 2023 taking on #2 D'Arbonne Woods. The Pioneers got off to a hot start, but the Timberwolves would come from behind to win 13-11.
The LHSAA moved all semifinal matchups that were originally set for 2:30 pm on Friday, May 2nd to 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 3rd. All semifinal games originally scheduled for 5:00 pm on Friday, May 2nd will now be played at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 3rd. State Championship games will now be played on Sunday, May 4th at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
In the Division IV Select semifinals, #2 Opelousas Catholic will now face #6 St. John on Saturday, May 3rd at 3:00 PM after their originally scheduled contest was postponed.
In the Division I Select semifinals, #2 St. Thomas More and #6 Mt. Carmel will face off at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 3rd.
The Division III Non-Select state title will be decided on Sunday, May 4th at 12:00 PM as #3 Jena takes on #5 Doyle.
