Brisbane hosts training camp as Australia’s Women’s Softball Team gears up for The World Games, LA28

The Australian Women's National Softball Team held a training camp in Brisbane, Queensland, in preparation for the upcoming The World Games 2025 Chengdu in China, which will take place from 13 to 18 August, and the road to Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

This past week, the team gathered in Brisbane, home of the Olympic Games 2032. Recently appointed head coach Kerrie Porter led the activities, with a combination of intra-squad games, training sessions and team meetings.

On Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 April the players were available for fans for a meet and greet session. The Aussie Spirit visited Brisbane again just five months after they took a five-game series against China, 3-2.

After picking a preliminary squad in February, with a total of 31 players including four Olympians in Tokyo 2020 like pitchers Kaia Parnaby and Ellen Roberts, catcher Taylah Tsitsikronis and outfielder Jade Wall, the Australian squad held a training camp at the Australian Institute of Sports in Canberra, in March, launching their LA28 campaign.

Australia has participated in all five Olympic Games softball competitions, winning a medal four times (three bronzes and a silver). In Tokyo 2020, the green and gold squad finished fifth.

Australia, No. 10 in the WBSC Women's Softball World Ranking, will open play at The World Games in Group B alongside No. 2 Japan, No. 3 Puerto Rico and No. 6 Canada. The group stage will run from 13 to 15 August, with four games each day. You can see the schedule here.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals on Saturday 16 August, with the two medal games on Sunday 17 August.
