Softball Park in Oklahoma City confirmed as competition venue for Olympic Games LA28

The Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 officially confirmed Softball Park in Oklahoma City, OK, as the official competition venue for the LA28 softball competition. Today, this relocation received final approval from the Los Angeles City Council, which also reviewed and approved several other updates to the 2028 Olympic Games Plan, that were proposed by LA28 last June, which relocate some of the most popular Olympic and Paralympic sports into existing world-class arenas and stadiums.

"The WBSC is thrilled to receive the confirmation of Softball Park as the competition venue for softball in the next Olympics," said WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari. "With no hesitation I can say that Softball Park is one of the best softball venues in the world and will offer athletes, coaches and fans the ultimate Olympic experience."

"I want to congratulate Oklahoma City for this historic news for the city. We are looking forward to working together to organise the best Olympic softball competition ever," added Fraccari.

Canoe Slalom was also approved to be relocated to Oklahoma City, where it will join Softball in top-tier, purpose-built venues. Oklahoma City's sport complexes are renowned for hosting premier Canoe Slalom and Softball events in the United States.

“The City of Los Angeles has been an incredible partner throughout this intricate process, led by the efforts of Mayor Bass, Council President Harris-Dawson, and Executive Director Krekorian, to finalize the 2028 Games Plan,” said LA28 Chief Executive Officer, Reynold Hoover.

"The changes approved by the City Council will improve the financial plan for the Games and help us ensure that LA28 will leave a lasting legacy and turn a profit for the people of Los Angeles — as did our 1932 and 1984 Games," said Mayor Karen Bass. "I applaud the City Council for their approval of this plan, and I thank the organizing committee for their continuing hard work to make sure the 2028 Games will make all of America proud as we welcome and inspire the world.”

With a capacity of 13,000 spectators, Softball Park hosted the U-18 Women's Softball World Cup 2015 and last year staged the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup Group C. In 2025, it will host the softball world again with the WBSC U-18 Women's Softball World Cup Finals from 27 September to 2 October.

“We accept this opportunity with the highest sense of obligation. With that final approval today, it is now official. Two sports from the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles – softball and canoe slalom – will be staged in their entirety in America’s 20th-largest city. This is really happening. The Olympics are coming to OKC,” said Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt. “Now that this is official, our work in Oklahoma City can truly begin, and hosting these events goes far beyond the venues.”

According to LA28, additional updates to the 2028 Games Plan that do not relocate events outside the City of Los Angeles’ boundaries, or that assign venues for the remaining new sports added to the Olympic and Paralympic sport programs since 2017, along with the updated Paralympic venue plan will all be announced at a later date.
