Groups, schedule announced for The World Games 2025 softball events in Chengdu, China

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), the International World Games Association (IWGA) and the Chengdu 2025 Local Organising Committee announced the groups and schedule for The World Games 2025 softball events. The men's softball competition will run from 6 to 10 August, followed by the women's event from 13 to 17 August. 

Each tournament will feature 20 games, with two groups of four teams, semifinals and medal games.

The softball events will be played at the Xindu Better City Softball Arena, which is expected to be completed by mid-June. With a total of 10 competition days and 40 games, softball features the longest schedule among the 35 sports included in the Chengdu 2025 sports programme.

Men's Softball Competition - Schedule

The men's softball event includes world No. 1 Argentina; No. 2 Australia; No. 3 Japan; No. 4 Canada; No. 5 Venezuela, No. 6 USA, No. 7 Czechia and No. 13 Singapore battling for the gold medal.

Argentina, Czechia, Japan and Venezuela have been drawn in Group A; while Australia, Canada, Singapore and USA will play in Group B. The group stage will run from 6 to 8 August, with four games each day. On August 7, the teams will participate in the Opening Ceremony.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals on Saturday 9 August, with the two medal games on Sunday 10 August.

Women's Softball Competition - Schedule

The women's event, scheduled from 13 to 17 August, will feature top-ranked USA; No. 2 Japan; No. 3 Puerto Rico; No. 4 Chinese Taipei; No. 5 Netherlands; No. 6 Canada; No. 10 Australia and No. 12 China. 

China, Netherlands, Chinese Taipei and USA will open the tournament in Group A; while Australia, Canada, Japan and Puerto Rico will collide in Group B. The group stage will run from 13 to 15 August, with four games each day: two at 10am (local time) and two at 1pm.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals on Saturday 16 August, with the two medal games on Sunday 17 August.
