Mexican Softball League sets new attendance record: 143,236 in four weeks
The Mexican Softball League (Liga Mexicana de Softbol -- LMS) keeps setting records, highlighting the league's significant growth in just its second season. This week, the LMS announced that 143,236 fans attended the LMS stadiums during the first four weeks of the season, setting a new record for the team.
During the first four weeks of season one, 109,000 fans attended the LMS games. This year, the league matched this mark in only three weeks, surpassing 100,000 fans after only three weeks of play.
With 64 games played in the first four weeks, the LMS has averaged 2,238 per game.
Diablos Rojos de Mexico continues to dominate the league with a 14-2 record, three games ahead of Bravas de Leon, which posted an 11-5 record. The defending champions Charros de Jalisco stand third with 10-6, while Sultanas de Monterrey is fourth with 9-7.
USA national team and Diablos Rojos ace Megan Faraimo is dominating the league, leading the LMS in wins (9), ERA (1.17), strikeouts (78) and WHIP (0.80).
Offensively, former US national team players are leading the tournament. Jazmin Jackson leads the league in batting average (.522), while WBSC Women's Softball World Cup silver medallist Mia Davidson is the home run leader with seven. Baylee Klingler leads the LMS in runs batted in with 20.
The LMS regular season will run until 9 March, with the top four teams moving to the semifinal series from 11 to 16 March. The Serie de la Reina (the LMS championship series) will be played from 18 to 23 March.
