History made in the Mexican Softball League as 2025 season off to hot start

The Mexican Softball League (LMS) opened its second season on January 23 with eight participating teams. Two weeks later, the 2025 season is proving to be one for the books, with teams and players setting new league records.

After two weeks of play, Bravas de Leon are still undefeated posting an 8-0 record. They became the first team in history to start the season with eight consecutive wins, matching at the same time the longest winning streak with eight, a record previously held by Sultanes Femenil last year - a team that, coincidentally, was then led by Nancy Prieto, Bravas' head coach this season.

On January 27, USA superstar Megan Faraimo tossed the league's first-ever perfect game against El Aguila de Veracruz. "I am very happy, waiting for the initial excitement to settle so I can start enjoying the significance of this achievement," Faraimo explained after the historic game. "This was a team victory because I don’t play alone; I had the support of the whole team. Plus, I had good run support, which allowed me to work calmly."

Faraimo struck out 12 in the game, using 78 pitches. "I didn’t start realising what was happening until the sixth inning," Faraimo explained. "For this game in particular, my mission was to improve in the middle innings, which was where I didn’t look good in my first outing, when I had trouble in the fourth inning. So when I got past that fourth inning without allowing a run, I was happy, and once I reached the sixth, that’s when I became aware of what was happening."

Faraimo's gem also became the third game with no hits and runs in the league, following a pair of no-hitters from Yanina Treviño last year.

Six days later, Charros de Jalisco's slugger Valeria Quiroga set a new record with seven RBIs in a game, leading the defending champions to a 15-5 victory against El Aguila de Veracruz. She connected a pair of home runs in the game, including a grand slam in the first inning (the first grand slam of the season, the third in LMS history).

The day after, Netherlands' Lisa Hop went 5-for-5 for Veracruz, tying the league record for most hits in a game. Savannah Wysocki from Tabasco went 5-5 last year, while Monterrey's Pamela Rosas went 5-for-7 last month.

Italy's Elisa Cecchetti became the first player to connect two hits in a single inning on January 25.

The LMS is broadcast by ESPN, Disney+, Claro TV, Fox Sports, AYM, TVC Deportes and Jonron.TV.
