Singapore targets major women's softball events; launches scholarship programme for National Team members

The Singapore Baseball and Softball Association (SBSA) has launched the inaugural SBSA-Community Athlete Scholarship to empower women’s softball players and strengthen Singapore’s presence in regional and international competitions.

Spanning five years, the initiative is part of the Singapore national team’s roadmap towards major events such as the Women's Softball Asia Cup 2025, SEA Games 2025, Asian Games 2026 and SEA Games 2029 in Singapore.. The scholarship aims to award up to $10,000 annually to deserving candidates, empowering the next generation of softball players.

The SBSA said this initiative seeks to provide opportunities for players to gain exposure through overseas training and development, alleviate financial barriers, and recognise players’ commitment and contribution to the sport – in the hope of enabling them to excel both on the field and in their academic or professional pursuits.

“This is a significant milestone and a huge step in the right direction. We are very encouraged by the overwhelming support given by our community-at-large for our talent development programmes," said Ms. Foo Pei, President of SBSA. "These are two victories that will continue to pave the pathway for our athletes in their milestones towards our major games and the development of softball in Singapore. So, I would like to extend a big thank you to our community for their generous contributions and support for our athletes.”

Singapore is currently ranked No. 39 in the WBSC Women's Softball World Ranking having had a previous highest ranking of 31 in 2023.
