New York Gremlins top Drillers, finish pool play 4-0 at Chiefs’ Challenge in Simcoe ON

Editor’s Note: The New York Gremlins and host Hill United Chiefs both finished pool play with perfect 4-0 records and will both head into semi-final games this morning at 10:00a.m.. Both teams were in the same pool, with the New York Gremlins determined to be the #1 seed based on the runs formula for the tournament. Gremlins will play 4th seed NE Drillers, while Hill, 2nd seed will play Bear Creek, the #3 seed , Winners to the Championship Game at Noon.

Bottom Of The Lineup Carries NY Gremlins Past NorthEast Drillers 18O

The bottom of the lineup helped NY Gremlins capture an 8-1 victory over NorthEast Drillers 18O on Saturday. Bryan Abrey, Ladislao Malarczuk, and Nick Mullins combined for five of the team’s 10 hits in the victory. They scored one run and drove in four.

Jack Besgrove struck out 13 batters on the day. The starting pitcher also surrendered three hits and one run over seven innings while walking none.

NY Gremlins jumped out to the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Zenon Winters singled, scoring one run, and Abrey homered to left field, scoring three runs.

Blaine Milheim hit a solo inside the park home run in the bottom of the fourth for the NorthEast Drillers 18O.

Tane Mumu homered to left field, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth for the NY Gremlins.

Marshall Kronk took the loss for NorthEast Drillers 18O. They went three innings, surrendering four runs on four hits, striking out four and walking three.

Abrey, Winters, and Mullins each collected two hits for NY Gremlins. Abrey and Mumu each drove in three runs for NY Gremlins. Lucio Retamar led NY Gremlins with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game. NY Gremlins were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Mullins made the most plays with 12.

Milheim led NorthEast Drillers 18O with one run batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day.
