Guilderland softball hands Shen first loss

GUILDERLAND, NY (NEWS10) -- Guilderland played host to a battle of top ten softball teams in Class AA on Wednesday. The #10 Lady Dutchmen took on #1 Shenendehowa.
The Lady Plainsmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, thanks in large part to a two-RBI double by Natalia Colone. Meghan Paul hit a two-run homer for Guilderland in the third inning to cut the deficit to one. Sophie Buccini tied the game for the Lady Dutchmen with an RBI single in the fourth inning.
After Shen took a 5-3 lead, Laila Smith tied it back up for Guilderland on one swing of the bat with a two-run shot. The Lady Dutchmen took their first lead of the game in the 6th inning on a Lily Durivage RBI base hit. Smith added two insurance runs on a double later in the inning, as Guilderland held on 8-5 to hand Shenendehowa their first loss of the season.
