K-State baseball, KU softball both nationally ranked after weekend sweeps

LAWRENCE/MANHATTAN (KSNT) - Action on the diamond is heating up in Kansas.

On Monday, KU softball and K-State baseball were both nationally ranked after impressive weekends on the road.

The Jayhawks, who are included in the national poll for the second week in a row, check in at No. 18 this week. It's a two-spot jump for Jennifer McFalls squad after going 3-1 last week. KU lost to nationally ranked Mizzou mid-week before a three game sweep of Houston, in Houston, to improve to 7-2 in Big 12 play. KU's national honor in softball comes according to the latest rankings from Softball America.

Meanwhile, Kansas State baseball is back in the top 25 for the first time since Feb. 19. The 'Cats are No. 23 in DI Baseball's March 25 listings. The national spotlight comes to Manhattan as Pete Hughes' squad is on a nine-game winning streak and alone in first place atop the Big 12. The Wildcats are 17-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play. K-State went 4-0 on the road last week, beating Wichita State once and Houston three times.

KU softball now prepares for its toughest test yet on the 2024 campaign as the Jayhawks will host No. 1 Oklahoma for a three game series, starting on Thursday. Click here for the KU softball schedule.

Kansas softball was originally scheduled to play at Kansas City (UMKC) on Tuesday but that game was canceled due to inclement weather. KU baseball also canceled its Tuesday game which was scheduled against Saint Louis.
