Sports briefs: Redwood softball walks off to beat Napa

Gia Meyers hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Redwood High softball team to an 8-7 walk-off win against Napa on Friday.

Meyers’ hit scored Stella Belluomini, who led off the inning with a double. Belluomini also pitched five innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs, only three of them earned. Belluomini paced the Giants (2-2) offensively with three hits, driving in a run and scoring once.

Kait Christensen, Maizy Crawford, Hailey Carlton, and Meyers all had two hits apiece.

  • Paige Murphy threw a five-inning one-hitter to lead Archie Williams to an 11-0 victory against St. Patrick-St. Vincent on Friday. The Peregrine Falcons (1-1) broke open the game with a seven-run fourth inning then tacked on four more in the fifth to end it. Sarah Conway had three hits and Lydia Battaglia drove in three runs for Archie Williams.
  • Seanna Madsen reached base five times, drove in five runs, and scored three times as Novato picked up its first victory, 14-4 against Credo on Friday. Madsen had three singles and drew two walks while hitting leadoff for the Hornets (1-4). Novato also got big games from Allie Tubach (three RBIs) and Claire Hannan (two hits, one RBI). Hannan pitched five innings to pick up the victory.

Prep baseball

Will Gensler had four hits, drove in two runs and scored three times to lead Tam to a 14-7 win against Terra Linda on Friday. Tam (4-2, 2-1 MCAL) did most of it damage in the third and sixth innings, scoring four and six runs, respectively.

Maxwell Fiek had two hits, two RBIs and scored twice for Tam while Finnegan McGrane and Cooper Kift drove in two runs each. Hayden Biesiadecki had three hits and an RBI for TL (0-5, 0-3).

  • Three Redwood pitchers combined on a no-hitter as the Giants defeated San Rafael 13-1 on Friday. Rex Solle pitched four innings, Jack Gurley worked two innings and Max Paul pitched the seventh. Jack Moseley had three hits for Redwood (4-1, 3-1) and Lucas Ghio drove in three runs. San Rafael (1-4, 0-2) scored its run in the seventh inning off a walk, a groundout, a fielder’s choice, and an error.
  • Redwood and Marin Catholic are set to play at Oracle Park in San Francisco — the home of the Giants — at 2:30 p.m. on March 23.

Women’s basketball

Dominican University jumped on Concordia Irvine early during Thursday’s PacWest quarterfinal, securing a 13-point lead after the first quarter en route to a 72-63 victory.

Alaiyah San Juan made 11 of 12 free throws to lead the Penguins with 14 points. Jenna Duley added 12 points and Andraya Perez scored 11.

  • Former Branson School standout Hannah Golan scored six of her team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter as Point Loma fell 63-61 against Fresno Pacific in the PacWest semifinals on Friday. Golan scored on a layup with 54 seconds left to pull Point Loma within 62-61.
  • Former Redwood High standout Kylie Horstmeyer tied her season high with 18 points as the University of San Diego fell 72-66 against Pacific in the second round of the West Coast Conference Tournament. Horstmeyer made 8 of 13 field goals to lead the team in scoring in 32 minutes off the bench. Horstmeyer averaged 10.3 points per game this season on 48.1% shooting.

Boys volleyball

Andrew Shone had 15 kills and two aces to lead Novato to a non-league win against San Rafael on Thursday, 25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23. Graham Engelskirchen added 10 kills for the Hornets while Jack Storey added eight kills, 12 assists, four aces, and two blocks.

  • Branson (3-4) swept past Summit K2, 25-15, 25-18, 25-18 on Friday.

Boys tennis

Chase Hoeveler and Ishwar Jayaraman were victorious at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, as Branson swept Tam 7-0 on Friday.

  • Alejandro Puentes and Cal Fazal won the top two singles matches, respectively, to lead Redwood to a 6-1 win against Novato on Thursday. Matthew Moyer picked up the lone win at No.3 singles for the Hornets.
  • San Domenico pulled out a 4-3 victory against College Prep on Thursday, sweeping the singles matches courtesy of Toby Sadzeck, Gavin Kennedy, Parker Sadzeck, and Tuan Le.

Track and Field

Sophomore Mani Mosher and senior Lochlan McLean gave Archie Williams a 1-2 finish in the boys 100 meter and Peregrine Falcons sophomore Ani Stieg won the girls 800 and 1,600 as the Falcons won Thursday’s tri-meet with Novato and Branson.

Archie Williams beat Novato, 93-25, and beat Branson, 105-0, in the boys competition. Novato’s boys beat Branson, 74-0. Archie Williams girls beat Branson, 60-34, and beat Novato, 59-33. Novato’s girls edged Branson, 41.5-37.5.

Novato’s Audrey Kobayashi won the girls 100 (13.77), ahead of the Falcons’ Elliana Rivera (13.87).

Boys golf

Tam’s Ben Friedman shot a 35 at StoneTree Golf Course to lead the Red-tailed Hawks past Terra Linda, 205-213, on Thursday. Sean Madden (38) and Derek Newhall (39) led the Trojans.
