Oklahoma Softball Team’s NCAA-Record 71-Game Winning Streak Ends

0 43

The University of Oklahoma softball team saw its NCAA-record 71-game winning streak come to an end Sunday, losing 7–5 to Louisiana in eight innings.

The Sooners, the reigning national champions, hadn’t lost a game since last February against Big 12 foe Baylor. Their 2024 season record moves to 18–1.

The game looked like it could’ve ended in the seventh inning as the Sooners were down 4–2. But, thanks to singles hit by Tiare Jennings and Riley Ludlam, two runners scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extras.

Oklahoma was met with a powerful eighth inning performance by the Ragin’ Cajuns, though, as Louisiana scored three runs. Oklahoma was only able to answer with one run at the bottom of the eighth.

This loss came just a day after the Sooners beat the Ragin’ Cajuns 8–0.

Oklahoma’s next matchup will be on Wednesday, March 6 against Texas A&M Commerce.
