Longhorns softball storms back to beat Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns 5-4

AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 2 Texas had to fight to get back on the winning track Sunday but rallied from a 4-0 deficit to take out Louisiana 5-4 at McCombs Field.

The Ragin' Cajuns plated four runs in the top of the first inning off Texas starting pitcher Mac Morgan, but the Longhorns answered with a run in their half of the frame plus three more in the second to tie it up.

Texas scored the eventual game-winning run in the fourth on a Katie Stewart single that plated Mia Scott.

Reese Atwood had another monster day at the plate, going 4 for 4 with two RBIs. She hit a two-run single in the second inning to tie the game after Ashton Maloney stole home. Stewart was 3 for 3 with two runs scored.

Morgan pitched 4 1/3 innings, scattering eight hits and allowing three earned runs with a strikeout. Citlaly Gutierrez relived her for 1 2/3, then freshman Teagan Kavan worked the seventh for her first save of the season.

Mia Scott hit a triple for the Longhorns and scored twice.

Texas (12-1) heads down Interstate 35 on Wednesday to take on Texas State before returning home to host the Longhorn Invitational over the weekend.
