Emporia State softball sweeps MIAA weekly honors

EMPORIA (KSNT) - It was a dominant week for Emporia State softball.

On the heels of an eight-game winning streak, the Hornets were awarded with two weekly MIAA honors.

Senior outfielder and Topeka native Alexis Dial was named the MIAA Hitter of the Week. She got the honor after a .727 batting average across three games, totaling eight hits, nine RBI and two home runs in the showing.

On the defensive side, junior pitcher Jayda VanAckeren was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week. She got the honor following a seven-inning complete-game shutout in a win over Wayne State, allowing just three hits in the process.

The Hornets are now 9-6, winners of their last eight. Next up is the Washburn Tournament, starting in Topeka on Friday with Minot State.
