High school softball rankings: Bay Area News Group season-ending Top 20

No. 1 ST. FRANCIS (28-4)

Regular-season-ending ranking: 1

Final word: Lost to Hollister in the Central Coast Section Open Division final as the No. 1 seed, and lost to the Balers again in the NorCal Division I final as the No. 2 team. 

No. 2 WILLOW GLEN (23-7) 

Regular-season-ending ranking: 12

Final word: Lost to St. Francis in the second round of the CCS Open Division playoffs, and then won the NorCal Division II championship on a walk-off over Notre Dame-Salinas. 

No. 3 CALIFORNIA (21-9) 

Regular-season-ending ranking: 14

Final word: Won the NCS Division I championship over San Ramon Valley, lost 2-1 to Central-Fresno in the NorCal Division I quarterfinal. 

No. 4 ARCHBISHOP MITTY (21-5)

Regular-season-ending ranking: 2

Final word: Lost to Hollister 4-1 in the second round of the CCS Open Division playoffs, lost to Whitney-Rocklin 9-3 in the NorCal Division I first round. 

No. 5 SAN RAMON VALLEY (23-7) 

Regular-season-ending ranking: 3

Final word: Captured team’s first East Bay Athletic League title in a 2-1 victory over Amador Valley, lost to California 5-1 in the North Coast Section Division I final, 10-0 to St. Francis in the NorCal Division I first round. 

No. 6 CAPUCHINO (22-6)

Regular-season-ending ranking: 4

Final word: Lost to Hollister 7-1 as the No. 6 seed in the CCS Open Division playoffs. 

No. 7 WESTMONT (20-9)

Regular-season-ending ranking: 16

Final word: Lost to Notre Dame-Salinas in the CCS Division I final.

No. 8 MILPITAS (21-5)

Regular-season-ending ranking: 6

Final word: Ranked as the No. 4 seed in the CCS Open Division playoffs, lost 10-1 to Willow Glen in the first round. 

No. 9 PINOLE VALLEY (29-2)

Regular-season-ending ranking: 7

Final word: Won the Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division and NCS Division III championships, lost to Ponderosa 7-1 in the NorCal Division III semifinals.

No. 10 GRANADA (21-6)

Regular-season-ending ranking: 5

Final word: Lost to San Ramon Valley 4-3 in the EBAL semifinal, defeated Bishop O’Dowd and Castro Valley in NCS Division I playoffs, lost 9-1 to California in the semifinal.

Final word: Lost to Archbishop Mitty 3-2 in the CCS Open Division first round in eight innings.

Final word: Lost to Heritage in the Bay Valley Athletic League championship, lost to San Ramon Valley in the NCS Division I semifinal. 

No. 13 CLAYTON VALLEY (17-6)

Final word: Reached the second round of the NCS Division I playoffs, where CVC lost to Freedom 3-2. 

No. 14 COLLEGE PARK (17-9)

Regular-season-ending ranking: 11

Final word: Lost 1-0 to California in the second round of the NCS Division I playoffs. 

No. 15 ALAMEDA (18-6)

Regular-season-ending ranking: 19

Final word: Lost to eventual NCS Division II champion Casa Grande in the section semifinal.

Regular-season-ending ranking: 15

Final word: Won the BVAL tournament, lost to San Ramon Valley in the NCS Division I quarterfinal.

Regular-season-ending ranking: Not ranked

Final word: Lost 5-1 to Casa Grande in the NCS Division II final.

No. 18 AMADOR VALLEY (15-12)

Regular-season-ending ranking: 9

Final word: Lost the EBAL final to San Ramon Valley 2-1 after beating California in the semifinal, lost to Castro Valley 2-0 in the first round of the NCS playoffs.

Regular-season-ending ranking: 20

Final word: Lost to Westmont in the CCS Division I semifinals.
