[Softball] Records fall in Softball Falcons sweep of Panthers
York, Neb. – The Friends University Falcons rewrote the offensive record book today (Apr. 13) in sweeping the York University Panthers by astounding scores of 14-1 and 25-3 in York, Neb.
The 25 runs in the second game are a modern-era record, powered by another new single-game mark of seven home runs along with 23 hits that equals the school record set earlier this season (Mar. 12) vs. Viterbo.
Priscilla Mora (SO/Beaumont, Calif. ) also had a career-best individual performance, driving in eight runs in the second game victory to tie the school single-mark set by Cheyenne Stewart in 2011.
Mora smashed two homers in the nightcap, starting with a three-run blast in the first inning before unleashing a grand slam in the third.
Alex Vick (FR/San Antonio, Texas) and Lexy Melo (FR/Tracy, Calif.) each went deep for the first time in their career, while Makenna Mitchell (SR/Orange County, Calif. ), Becca Dunn (SO/Jurupa Valley, Calif. ) and Jayden Estabrook (SO/Tracy, Calif. ) also hit round-trippers for the Falcons.
Laila Spracklen (SR/San Diego, Calif. ) also went 3-of-4 with three runs and three RBIs for the Falcons. Vanessa Sigala (JR/Carson, Calif. ) had an RBI double, while Zoey Latessa (FR/Lawrence, Kan.) and Faith Bannister (JR/Haysville, Kan) each had RBI singles. Fallyn Marshall (JR/Syracuse, Utah), the current KCAC Player of the Week, fueled the Falcons at the top of the order with three hits and a pair of runs scored.
Starter Isabelle Schwien (JR/Denver, Colo. ) went four innings in the second game, allowing just two unearned runs with five strikeouts and no walks. Giselle Gutierrez gave up one run in the fifth inning to finish off the win for Friends.
The Falcons also used the long ball early and often in the opening tilt, with Mora unloading a three-run homer and Mitchell launching a two-run blast in the first frame.
Carolyn Dallimore (SR/Patterson, Calif. ) then hit a grand slam in the second inning for her team-leading 12th homer of the season to add to her career-high number.
Spracklen later produced the Falcons' fourth homer of the game with a solo shot in the fifth.
Mitchell then came through with an RBI triple in the fourth in going a perfect 4-of-4 at the plate with four RBIs.
Mora and Dallimore also drove in four runs, with Mora going 3-of-4 at the plate with three runs scored. In the two games combined, Mora exploded to go 6-of-7 at the plate with three homers, six runs scored and 12 RBIs.
Spracklen gave up just one run in five innings with eight strikeouts to move within 14 of Brandi Leeker's career record of 441 set in 2006-09.
The Falcons, still in the second spot in the KCAC with a 13-3 conference record and a 25-9 overall mark, will host Tabor College for Senior Day Saturday afternoon (Apr. 15) starting at 1 pm at Two Rivers Youth Complex.
