Sports Briefs: San Rafael’s Drummer no-hits San Marin softball

San Rafael ace Thomara Drummer piled up 16 strikeouts and threw a no-hitter to lead the Bulldogs to a 4-0 victory against San Marin on Wednesday night. Drummer, who struck out every batter she faced at least once, was one walk shy away from tossing a perfect game.

San Rafael (5-2, 4-0) scored runs in the third, sixth and seventh innings to gradually pull away. Megan Murphy had two hits, drove in two runs and scored once. Drummer and Cassidy Kaplan also had two hits apiece.

San Marin starter Brittany Casper had a strong game in her own right, allowing nine hits and striking out six while allowing just one earned run. San Marin was charged with four errors. Leadoff hitter Lauren Fong drew the team’s one walk.

• Paige Murphy limited Novato to three hits while piling up 13 strikeouts, leading Archie Williams to an 8-3 victory on Wednesday. The Hornets (5-5, 1-3) jumped out in front 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning but Murphy was untouchable from there. Emma Freed had two hits and three RBIs for the Peregrine Falcons (1-6, 1-3). Chase Unger had two hits and two RBIs. Kalanit Kohn scored three runs. Archie Williams scored twice in the second inning then took the lead for good with three runs in the third.

Boys tennis

Anders Jacobs toughed out a two-set singles win to help Archie Williams to a 6-1 victory over Novato on Wednesday. Jacobs defeated Indie Stanic, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Henry Pratt, Johan Jacobs and Dylan Donner completed the singles sweep for the Peregrine Falcons.

Novato’s No. 2 doubles team of Diego Tovar and Shawn Kim hurried to a 6-2, 6-0 victory as the Hornets avoided the shutout.

• Redwood High narrowly swept doubles play as the Giants posted a 6-1 victory over San Marin. The Giants’ No. 1 duo of Eric Srevenan and Jack Taylor held on for a 6-2, 3-6, 10-4 victory over a determined Mustang pair of Cole Shotz and Anton Bogak. San Marin’s Kash Conners rallied for a 0-6, 6-4, 10-7 win over Tito Adams at No. 4 singles.

• The Branson School’s Jeffrey Huang carved out a hard-fought win over Marin Catholic’s Jack Millar to lead the Bulls to a 7-0 victory Wednesday. Huang held off Millar 6-3, 7-6, at No. 1 singles. Branson’s Max Goldman, Chase Hoeveler and Ishwar Jayaraman also won their singles matches.

• San Domenico swept host Drew 5-0 Wednesday.

College baseball

College of Marin forced into extra innings, but rival Solano scored twice in the tenth inning for a 9-7 victory over the host Mariners on Wednesday.

An RBI double by Steven Elsner and a two-run homer from Jacob Campbell in the bottom of the ninth inning rallied the Mariners (10-13, 3-1) from a 7-4 deficit to send the game into extra innings.

Marin starter Erik Kvidahl struck out seven batters and scattered five hits across five innings. Reliever Zach Coleman worked three innings and took the loss.

Girls lacrosse

Audrey Carr dominated the field with eight goals and nine draw controls Wednesday as Marin Catholic defeated Justin-Siena 22-6 in Napa. The Wildcats pushed their unbeaten streak to eight games. Sarah Press added five goals and two assists, while Marlee Dies had four goals and four assists for the Wildcats. Libby Irving scored twice and Elsa Greene had a goal and nine draw controls for Marin Catholic.

• Marin Catholic withstood the harsh winter storm Tuesday for a 20-4 victory over Branson. Nies scored a team-best five goals, while Press scored four goals and had three assists. The Wildcats got three goals from Bridget Livermore. Carr turned in a solid effort with 14 draw controls and three goals. Marin Catholic goalie Noelle Antongiovanni had 10 saves.

Boys lacrosse

Marin Catholic is off to a solid start to the season after Tuesday’s 17-3 victory over the Branson School. The Wildcats (4-2, 2-0) are scheduled to play non-league foe Vista del Lago of Folsom on Saturday, before returning the MCAL play next week against San Marin on March 28th. In other MCAL games Tuesday, Tam defeated San Rafael, 14-1.

• Marin Academy defeated host Casa Grande, 11-4, on Tuesday. The Wildcats (7-1) are scheduled to play BCL-West foe Urban in San Francisco on Friday.

Prep badminton

San Domenico sophomore Kevin Yang held on for a three-set victory Tuesday to help the Panthers defeat Drew 6-3. Yang pulled off a 21-18, 17-21, 21-11 singles win, while teammate Martin Peng held tough to give San Domenico another boys singles win. The San Domenico girls were tough in singles and doubles competition.

Golf

Tam slogged out a 175-190 victory over Redwood at a rain-soaked Mill Valley Golf Course on Wednesday. Ben Friedman and Adam Dali led the Red-tailed Hawks (7-1) with a pair of 33s. Brody Root and Jack Mount paced the Giants with a pair of 34s.

• The Branson School brought home a 209-219 victory over Terra Linda at Stonetree on Wednesday. Carl Smith led the Bulls with a 39, while Terra Linda’s Sean Madden carded a 41.

• The San Francisco City Championship will crown its champions this weekend in five divisions at TPC Harding Park Golf Course. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, with the championships on Sunday for the men’s, women’s, seniors, super seniors and open flights. San Rafael’s Kevin Kobalter and Kentfield’s Mark Sanchez are in a foursome together, teeing off first on Saturday in City Championship match play. San Rafael’s Jim Himler, Paul Perlite and Novato’s Steve Vella and Matthew Watkins are also scheduled to compete Saturday.

Water polo

Several players from Marin County joined the USA Water Polo Boys Open Development Program National Championships in San Antonio, Texas, last weekend. Terra Linda High sophomore Soren Jessen, who was on the cadet team that finished second, was selected to the Cadet National Team Selection Camp.

Other local standouts at the tournament included Archie Williams’ Haakon Lacy, Redwood’s Andrew Wallace, Ethan Wallace, William Mills, Nathan Greenberg, Patrick Jackson, Beckett Kaye, Joseph Parente and Terra Linda’s Cameron Hellar.

• USA Water Polo and the Olympic Club will be two of the six squads featured in a two-day free event at College of Marin’s Miwok Aquatic Center at IVC on Saturday and Sunday.
