Jaquish, Osterman lead Athletes Unlimited softball season after week 1
Women’s softball world champion Sahvanna Jaquish earned 498 points during the first weekend of the Athletes Unlimited softball season and leads the standings of the athlete-centered competition. Eight points behind, three-time Olympic medallist and Athletes Unlimited defending champion Cat Osterman sits in second place, with Mexican Olympian Tori Vidales in third place with 468 points. All of them, along with Lilli Pipper, will captain each of the four teams in week 2.
A total of 12 medallists at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are competing in Athletes Unlimited, with a total of 21 Olympians on the field this past weekend.
The four leaders in the standings played for Team Osterman during the weekend, with the team sweeping the three games played. Jaquish, Osterman, Vidales and Pipper will draft their teams on Tuesday.
Osterman made history one more time tossing the first no-hitter in the history of Athletes Unlimited, a 5-strikeout, 97-pitch effort to lead her team to a 6-1 victory over Team Hayward.
WBSC live-streamed game 1 of the competition on Facebook, and will do it again this Saturday, 4 pm ET, with Game 7.
