[Softball] Staying Home: Walters named new Friends Softball Graduate Assistant Intern Coach

0 34

WICHITA, Kan. – Former Friends University softball all-conference pitcher Hali Walters is remaining with the program as the new graduate assistant intern coach.

"Having Hali on board as our Graduate Assistant is a huge win for our program!" said Friends softball head coach Suzanne Unruh.  "Hali had such an outstanding career on the mound as a Falcon, her experience and competitive mindset will keep our pitching staff on the rise and continue to be successful. We're excited to see her on the coaching side of things here at Friends University!"

A two-time first-team All-KCAC hurler, Walters made a habit of producing in the clutch moments down the stretch.

Last year, the Longmont, Colo. native fueled the Falcons surge to a top-three conference finish with a 23 inning scoreless streak. Walters ranked in the top five in the KCAC in a slew of categories, including wins (15), ERA (2.57), strikeouts per game (7.17) and opponents' batting average (.244).

In 2019, Walters put together an ace performance but was particularly stingy in April, going 10-1 with 66 strikeouts and a minuscule 0.83 ERA.  She finished that year tops in the league in wins (19), third in strikeouts per game (6.70) and fifth in ERA (2.58) while also showing a penchant for closing out victories with three saves.

The Falcons will kick off their fall schedule by hosting round-robin scrimmages on Sept. 11-12.
