Spectator limits for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be capped at 50 percent of venue capacity, or up to a maximum of 10,000 people per venue, Tokyo 2020 organizers announced today.

Baseball and softball events at the Tokyo 2020 Games will take place at the 30,000-seat Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium and the 34,000-seat Yokohama Stadium, which will welcome up to 10,000 spectators per game.

The National Teams of Australia and Japan will open the Olympic softball competition on 21 July at 9 a.m. local time, which will be the first Olympic competition of the Tokyo 2020 Games.

If a state of emergency is implemented at any time after 12 July 2021, restrictions on spectator numbers at the Games will be based on the content of the state of emergency.

Spectators at the events will need to wear masks at all times. Speaking in a loud voice or shouting will be prohibited. Congestion should be avoided by utilizing appropriate announcements. Visitors should leave venues in a staggered manner. Spectators will be requested to travel directly to venues, return home directly, and take all necessary precautions when moving between prefectures.

The IOC also informed that a framework would be implemented to keep monitoring the status of infections and medical care using expert advice.
