[Softball] Claxon walks off the game
Brankamp picks up her 13th win
Postseason is all about survive and advance. Georgetown College softball hosted a Mid-South Conference Tournament opening round, best of three series with Cumberland University. After a split of day one, it all came down to Saturday's rubber match.
Kristen Klimesh got the day off to a great start with a one-out triple where she scored on a base overthrow error on the Phoenix second baseman. Madie Sims added a cushion run an inning later with a solo shot. However, it was Sarah Claxon's bottom of the eighth left center single that walked it off as GC advances to the final site of the tournament with the 4-3 win.
Cumberland made it interesting by tying the game up in the top of the sixth as errors played a role in putting the visitors in that position. GC scratched one of those back to regain the lead, but a solo home run in the top of the seventh forced extra innings.
