Sports briefs: San Rafael softball rolls past Tam

Megan Murphy, Riley Cottrell and Angel Amesa drove in three runs apiece as the San Rafael High softball team piled up runs in four innings of work en route to a 15-0 win over Tam on Monday.

San Rafael got two runs in the first and three more in the second before exploding for 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth to put it away. Kelsey McNair had two hits, two walks, two RBIs and scored three runs for the Bulldogs.

Emmaline Sekula had two of Tam’s five hits.

College golf

Matt Fry helped the Dominican University men’s team to a fifth-place finish through Day 1 of the PacWest Championships in Hawaii on Monday.

Fry had three birdies en route to a 1-over-par 71 to finish tied for eighth individually. The Penguins shot 27 over, 21 shots behind co-leaders Hawaii Hilo and Holy Names.

Prep track

Kezian Dunn and Hayley Ballard set school records in the shot put and 3,200 meters, respectively, for San Domenico at the first Bay Counties League West meet of the season at Kezar Stadium on Saturday.

Dunn, who also won the discus, had a mark of 38 feet, 7 inches in the shot put. Ballard finished the 3,200 in 11 minutes, 47.07 seconds. Kevin Leng (triple jump), Tobe Ohajunwa (100 meters) and Eden Roberts (shot put) also picked up wins for the Panthers. San Domenico finished third on the girls’ side and fourth on the boys’ side.
