[Softball] No. 9 Royals Hold Off Hawks in DH Sweep
SANTEE, Calif. – The pitching and defense kept the SDCC softball team in both games of the doubleheader against No. 9 Hope International.
But the bats went silent at times and the Hawks dropped both games to the Royals, 2-0 in Game 1 and 3-1 (8 inn.) in Game 2.
Game 1 starter Amaryssa Medina threw will in the loss. She tossed all seven innings and allowed six hits, two runs with six strikeouts. Alicia Corona and Kayla Dominguez each had a hit but were no threats to score.
In Game 2, the Hawks pushed the game into extras. Both teams scored a run in the opening frame. The Royals got a run off a solo shot from Okazaki. SDCC scored with a running decoy. Noemi Farfan attempted to steal second and was caught in a rundown. While in the rundown, Alicia Corona came home from third.
SDCC didn't have a runner reach third base until the eighth inning. In the top of the eighth, the Royals capitalized with a 2-run homer from Mao.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the inning, the Hawks were unable to bring Dominguez from third as they took the 3-1 loss.
The two teams will complete the season series on Saturday with another DH starting at noon.
