0 14

WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons marked Senior Day by continuing their spectacular run with a sweep of the Sterling College Warriors by scores of 10-1 and 11-1 today (Apr 10) at Two Rivers Youth Complex. The two victories give the Falcons 13 wins in their last 14 games to surge into second place in the KCAC with a 13-3 conference record, along with a 24-11 overall mark.

The Falcons immediately took control in the opening game when an RBI single by Makenna Mitchell (SO/Orange County, Calif. ) was followed by a three-run blast from Jennifer Garcia (FR/Sylamar, Calif. ) in the first inning for a quick 4-0 lead.

After plating two more runs in each of the second and third frames, Garcia singled home two more runs in the fourth to give her a career-high five RBIs.

It was another solid outing in the circle for senior Hali Walters (SR/Longmont, Colo.), who pitched four shutout innings with three strikeouts. She was followed by fellow senior Ashlyn Jacobs (SR/Valley Center, Kan. )' one inning with one unearned run allowed.

Garcia, a freshman from Sylamar, Calif., was also a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate with two runs scored to go along with her career-best five RBI output.

Vanessa Burnett and Miranda Alvarez each had a pair of hits in the first game for Sterling (7-23, 5-11 KCAC).

It was junior Kat Davis (JR/Keller, Texas) anchoring the Falcons' offensive attack in the nightcap with a 3-of-3 effort and four RBIs, starting with an RBI single that plated Aleigha Gale (FR/Winfield, Kan. ) in the first inning.

Following an RBI single by Meghan Low (JR/Collinsville, Okla.) that chased home Hannah Lang (JR/Topeka, Kan. ), Davis tripled home two more runs to widen the gap to 4-0 for the Falcons.

That set the stage for the Falcons to explode for seven runs in the bottom of the third to break things open.

Garcia began the inning with a single and promptly scored on a two-run homer by Kaylen Lassley (SR/Salina, Kan. ).

Davis also added her fourth RBI in the big inning, a single that scored Gale.

The Falcons pounded out 15 hits in the second tilt, with Gale matching Davis' three hit total. The 15 hits are tied for the second most this season. Low and Lang also each went 2-of-3 for Friends.

Michelle Kroell (SO/Clovis, Calif. ) got the win with a three inning effort, allowing one run and striking out one. Laila Spracklen (SO/San Diego, Calif. ) then had a successful return to the circle with three strikeouts in two scoreless frames.

Next up for the Falcons is a matchup at York College on Tuesday (Apr. 13) starting at 4 pm in York, Neb.
