[Softball] Softball Falcons Split at Kansas Wesleyan

Salina, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons split a pair of games with the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes today (Mar. 20) in Salina, Kan. The Falcons took the opener 4-1 in nine innings before the Coyotes slipped by with a 3-2 win in the second tilt.

The Falcons got a superb pitching performance from Hali Walters (SR/Longmont, Colo.) in pulling out the first game victory.

Walters went the distance, striking out four while allowing just one earned run and walking two during her nine innings in the circle.

The game was 1-1 until the ninth inning when the Falcons struck for three runs, highlighted by a go-ahead RBI single by Kaylen Lassley (SR/Salina, Kan. ) and another run-scoring single from Makenna Mitchell (SO/Orange County, Calif. ).

Walters then finished things off in the bottom of the frame with a strikeout to end the game.

Mitchell and Kat Davis (JR/Keller, Texas) each had two hits for the Falcons, with Lauren Blue going 3-of-4 at the plate for KWU.

Carmen Angulo struck out eight and gave up three earned runs in nine innings for KWU.

The Falcons (11-10, 2-2 KCAC) fell behind 2-0 in the nightcap, but managed to tie the score on a solo homer by Mitchell in the fifth and then an RBI single by Lacee Travens (SO/Reno, Nev. ) in the seventh. Davis got the seventh inning started with a double before pinch runner Tatum Haney (SO/Derby, Kan. ) came home with the tying run on Traven's single.

Angulo then won it for the Coyotes (7-7, 1-1 KCAC) in the eighth with a sacrifice fly after also throwing eight innings with two runs allowed to get the win.

Traven's game-tying single was one of her two hits in the second tilt, while Blue and Katlyn Acosta also had two hits for the Coyotes.

Michelle Kroell (SO/Clovis, Calif. ) started for Friends and had a pair of strikeouts with three runs allowed.

The Falcons will next be in action on Wednesday (Mar. 24) starting at 2 pm at McPherson College.
