[Softball] Merritt Earns Second-Consecutive Softball Academic All-America Honor

Austin, TX - CoSIDA released its Academic All-America® NAIA Softball Team today, June 8, listing one of our own as an honoree. Lexi Merritt garnered her second-consecutive Academic All-America® award.

Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America® awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.

In her career as a Viking, Merritt had an impressive 0.993 fielding percentage along with three national rankings in the 2020 season. Merritt was ranked No. 1 in fielding percentage (1.000), No. 14 in runs scored per game (1.333), and No. 17 in doubles per game (0.556).

There were five repeat CoSIDA Academic All-America® selections. Catcher Hannah Stephenson of the University of Cumberlands, infielders Rachael Jones of Central Baptist College and Lexi Merritt of Grand View University, and outfielder Jessica Jones of McPherson College were first-team honorees in 2020 after being named to the second team a year ago. Georgia Gwinnett College designated player Sydney Willhite was named to the second team this season after being selected to the first team in 2019.
