March 12, 2020 – NAGAAA News Announcement: COVID-19 Updates & Actions

 

NAGAAA Family,

 

 

NAGAAA has been monitoring the news, local/state/federal government information and specific information disseminated by the Center for Disease Control about novel coronavirus COVID-19 as it relates to our two annual events, NAGAAA Cup and Gay Softball World Series.

 

Today, the decision was made by the NAGAAA Executive Board to cancel the 2020 NAGAAA Cup in Palm Springs, California that was to be held from March 27-29. 

 

There were factors over the past several days that left us little choice but to cancel the tournament.  Player safety is and will always be our top priority and that was the main factor in the tournament’s cancellation.

 

Additionally, our event ran into several logistical issues including fields becoming unavailable and possible travel concerns for those going to and from Palm Springs.  While going through possible scenarios that would allow us to continue on with the tournament it became clear that the logistics would not allow the tournament to be played.

 

Full refunds will be given to all teams that were confirmed for the tournament.

 

All hotel room reservations can be cancelled by calling the Riviera Palm Springs directly at (760) 327-8311.  

 

You MUST call the hotel directly to cancel without a penalty.

GSWS

 

While NAGAAA Cup is our immediate priority, it is not lost on us that we are expecting the largest GSWS in history this August in Columbus, Ohio and that this year’s GSWS could be on a scale 10 times larger than the NAGAAA Cup.

 

The NAGAAA Board will continue to monitor issues and concerns surrounding novel coronavirus COVID-19 as it relates to sporting/social events leading up to the tournament.  We will also be in contact with the Columbus Host Committee, local government contacts in Columbus.

 

We urge each of our associations to properly address COVID-19 with your memberships and to get the attached CDC prevention guidelines out to them via social media, email or other ways of communication.  While we do not need to stop living our lives, we can always give as much information as possible to limit future exposures.

 

Expect proactive and timely communication from NAGAAA as we learn more about the effects and reach of the COVID-19 pandemic.
