U-19 Women’s softball World Cup: Day 2 recap
This is a full Day 2 recap. In the history of the U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup, the day that will be remembered as August 11 Marathon .
We get started with group D games.
Canada beat the Netherlands, 2-0, playing perfect defence behind some brilliant pitching by Samantha Ryan, who went the distance allowing only two hits and three walks. Canada outhit, 6-2, the Dutch and also prevailed in the running game.
Chinese Taipei took off in the tournament with a late-inning come from behind win over New Zealand, 7-6. The team from Oceania took the lead three times in the game, and was only one out away from victory, but couldn’t hold the lead.
These are group B games.
Japan scored in each of their four offensive innings to take an 8-1 win over South Africa.
Shuri Kasahara produced 3 runs on 2 hits, while Mio Sakamoto, Chise Yamashita and Remi Shingu combined to pitch a 1-hit game. Yamashita took the win in 3 innings of work, with 1 hit, 1 run and 2 strikeouts.
We get now to group C games.
China scored seven in the bottom of the fifth to beat, 8-3, Ireland. The absolute beginners of the U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup entered the frame with a two-run lead, but couldn’t stick to it because of a couple of questionable defensive plays.
