Pan Am Games: Argentina claims men’s softball gold; baseball’s Super Round set to begin
Argentina Men’s Softball National Team claimed yesterday its first-ever Pan American Games Gold Medal, beating USA in the final game, 5-0. The North American team reached the final after taking the Bronze Medal Game against Mexico, 7-4.
Argentina completed a perfect summer this season. In June they won the WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship in Prague and now secured the top spot on the podium at the Pan American Games. It’s the first time Argentina claims a softball gold medal in the continental Games. They had two bronzes before, in Santo Domingo 2003 and Toronto 2015.
The Silver Medal is the first for USA since 2003, which ends a 16-year medal drought at a major international competition. It’s the eighth medal ever for the North American team.
Mexico finished third place and claimed the Bronze Medal. It’s the first time the Mexican team has won a medal in the history of this event.

Baseball: Super Round set to begin
Canada, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Nicaragua will play the Super Round of the baseball competition at the Pan American Games Lima 2019. Canada and Puerto Rico advanced with positive record after clinching the first place in their groups on Thursday.
In the first game of the day, Canada beat Colombia 10-3 and clinched the top spot in Group B. A 6-run sixth inning, including a grand slam off the bat of Wesley Darvill, powered the Canadian team to win and finish with a perfect record in Group B. Scott Richmond had a quality start for the Mapple Leaf team, pitching 7 inning with 5 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs and 5 strikeouts to claim the win.
Puerto Rico clinched the first place in Group A with a walk-off, 10-inning win over Dominican Republic, by a score of 2-1. Jeffrey Dominguez hit a sacrifice fly in the extra-inning to plate Wilfredo Rodriguez and end the match. Puerto Rico advance to the Super Round with 1-0 record, while Dominican Republic was eliminated.
In the last game of the Opening Round, Nicaragua defeated host Peru, 10-0, and clinched the second place in Group A.
