USA International Cup begins in Columbus

A total of 10 teams from seven nations compete in the USA International Cup 2019, starting today at South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, Georgia, including six of the top 10 teams in the world: World No. 1 USA, Japan (2), Puerto Rico (4), Mexico (5), Chinese Taipei (6), China (8), Philippines (13) and Peru (20). The U-19 USA National Team and Scrap Yard Fast Pitch completes the field of teams.

Six of the National Teams will use the International Cup to tune up for the upcoming softball Olympic qualifiers. Puerto Rico, Mexico and Peru will participate in the Americas event, in Surrey, Canada; while Chinese Taipei, China and Philippines will try to advance in the Asia/Oceania event.

All 10 teams will play a six-day single round robin, with the top two advancing to the final, on 7 July at 12:00 local time.
