0 11

WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Softball Falcons, under first-year head coach Suzanne Unruh, won twice today to extend their winning streak to four games and improve to 5-6 on the season.  The Falcons routed the Peru State College Bobcats 14-2 before dispatching of the Doane College Tigers 10-6 in their second game of the day at Two Rivers Youth Complex in Wichita.

Kylie Fox (SR/Wichita, Kan. ) had a big hand in the Falcons' two victories, going a combined 5-of-8 at the plate and driving in six runs on the day.

Fox started the afternoon with a two-homer game in the win over the Bobcats.  She hit a two-run shot in the first inning to answer a solo homer by Jordynn Jimenez in the PSU first inning before launching another two-run blast to fuel a seven-run second frame that broke the game open.

Isabella Gonzalez (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.) got the Falcons started in the first by drawing a leadoff walk, stealing second and scoring the first run on a single by Shelby Belloni (SR/Denver, Colo. ).

Hannah Lang (FR/Topeka, Kan. ) and Cassie Jones (SR/Erie, Colo. ) also had RBI singles in the first inning for Friends.

Belloni then started and finished the Falcons' second inning with two of her three doubles.  She led off with a double and scored on Fox's homer and then capped the frame by chasing home Gonzalez with another two-base hit.

Renee Downey (JR/Modesto, Calif.) singled home Kat Davis (FR/Keller, Texas) in the third and Gonzalez scored the 14th run of the game on an RBI groundout by Mackenzie Nichols (SR/Columbus, Ohio).

Belloni was a perfect 4-of-4 in the Falcons' first game, while Ericka Baca (FR/Arlington, Texas) had three hits and scored twice in her three at-bats. Downey had a pair of hits and Gonzalez scored three times.

Hali Walters (SO/Longmont, Colo.) struck out seven batters and allowed two runs in her five inning outing.

With the second game against Doane tied 6-6, the Falcons exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take control.

After singles by Lang and Jones got the inning started on the right note, Gonzalez reached on a bunt single to plate Lang with the go-ahead run. Following a sacrifice fly by Belloni, Fox doubled home Gonzalez to put the Falcons up three runs.

Davis then drove home pinch runner Hunter Kincaid (SO/Aurora, Colo. ) with a single to finish the inning for the Falcons.

Alicia Dunagan (SR/Douglass, Kan.) made the lead stand by blanking the Tigers on one hit over the final two frames.

Dunagan allowed four earned runs and struck out two overall in her seven innings in the circle to pick up the win.

Fox had three more hits for the Falcons in the win over Doane, with Gonzalez going 3-of-3.  Davis and Lang each had two RBIs, while Savannah Jackson (FR/Ramona, Calif. ) scored twice.

The Falcons are next scheduled to play at Newman University on Wednesday (Mar. 6) at 2 pm in Wichita.
