LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo Softball opens the 2019 season against two NCAA Division II opponents in St. Cloud State and Bemidji State on March 1-2. The V-Hawks look energized and ready to take the next step in their fifth season under the direction of head coach Brandi Alonzo.

A healthy roster and a reinforced pitching staff may be the blessing Viterbo needed on the forefront. The V-Hawks return ace Caitlyn Kozik (SR/Marshfield, Wis.) from injury as well as starting pitcher and slugger Brooklyn Ottelien (SO/Racine, Wis.) to the mound.

The V-Hawks lost four starters from last season, including graduated senior Anna Lensmire. A freshman class of eight, two junior college transfers, and an addition of a Viterbo Women's Basketball player will certainly help fill in the gaps.

The 2018 squad did end the season on the upward swing, going 5-3 in their final eight games with a road doubleheader sweep of Martin Luther College on April 26. The V-Hawks ranked third in the North Star Athletic Association in triples (15) and finished 29th in the NAIA in assists per game (9.09).
