MADISON, S.D. (Feb. 26, 2019)—The Dakota State University Trojan Softball team (1-2 overall record) prepares to play a total of eight games in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational next week. The Trojans return back to action for the first time since Feb. 10 where they went 1-2 record in the Presentation (S.D.) Softball Dome Tournament in Aberdeen, falling short to a pair of NAIA's Top 25 nationally-ranked teams. All tournament games will be held at Lincoln Park North Complex (8100 E. Escalante Road) in Tucson.
DSU begins the tournament play on Monday (March 4) versus Missouri Valley and Siena Heights (Mich.). The Trojans take a day off before returning back to action on March 6 against a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference foes—No. 24-ranked Jamestown (N.D.) and Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.). DSU faces Madonna (Mich.) and Concordia (Neb.) on March 8. The Trojans close out the tournament versus Dordt (Iowa) and Roosevelt (Ill.) on March 9. There will be four games scheduled for the Trojan softball junior varsity team on March 4, 6, 8 and 9.
Dakota State began their season with a 9-2 victory over long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) in the first game of the PC Dome Tournament on Feb. 10. The Trojans fell to No. 25-ranked and North Star's conference preseason favorite Valley City State (N.D.) 13-4 in the second game and closed the tournament with a 6-4 setback to No. 24-ranked Jamestown (N.D.).
Next Up: Dakota State (S.D.) will take a week off before resuming back to action after the Tucson Invitational Games. DSU plays at College of Saint Mary (Neb.) on March 21 before opening NSAA conference play at home.
