FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The St. Andrews University softball team swept Fayetteville State University on Tuesday afternoon, taking the first game with a score of 11-5 and the second game 8-3.

SAU 11 FSU 5

St. Andrews had a very big offensive outing in the first game of the doubleheader against the Broncos, collecting a total of 11 runs, the most they have scored in a single game this season.

After a scoreless first inning, junior Lily Pinto (JR/Boca Raton, FL) would tally the first run of the game with a two-out single that scored senior Lexi Dawson (SR/Garland, NC). Fayetteville State would then score two runs of their own in the bottom of the second, taking the lead 2-1.

The Knights would not be stopped though, as they had a dominating third inning that was started off by junior Asucena Trujillo (JR/Nyssa, OR)'s double off the center field fence. Junior Brennan Broadaway (JR/Oakboro, NC) collected an RBI by scoring Trujillo with a double to right field. Senior Nikki Santiago kept the inning going with a single to right field, bringing Broadaway across the plate. The final run scored in the top of the 3rd was scored by S.K. Brown (JR/Huntersville, NC)'s right field single.

The Broncos would answer back with two more runs but that would not be enough as the Knights offense did not cool off, tallying 7 additional runs in the remaining innings of the game.

Dawson led the Knights in game 1, going 3 for 4, while collecting a stolen base and an RBI. Also having a strong game was Brennan Broadaway as she went 2 for 5 with one of her hits being a double and recording 2 RBI's. The Knights had an impressive game offensively, hitting 3 doubles, collecting 8 RBI's, and 5 stolen bases.

SAU 8 FSU 5

The second game got off to a slow start after another scoreless first inning, but the Knights would quickly change that in the second inning.

With two outs in the second inning, S.K. Brown hit a single to right center field to score Nikki Santiago, putting the Knights ahead, 1-0.

The Broncos were unable to connect with the ball offensively as S.K. Brown dominated the pitcher's mound in game two. St. Andrews created another powerful third inning, much like game 1, collecting 5 runs that was fueled by Asucena Trujillo's lead-off double to right center. Freshman Stevie Holland (FR/Oak Ridge, NC) collected her first RBI of the season in the third inning as she beamed a line drive to center field.

Fayetteville State recorded runs in each the 5th, 6th, and 7th inning but would not come close to taking the lead, as SAU won the game 8-3.

Brown and Broadaway each went 2 for 4 and combined for 5 RBI's for the Knights.

This is the second sweep of the season for the Lady Knights as they improve to 6-10 and will next be in action on Friday, February 22nd, as they host St. Augustine University.
