[Softball] Softball Splits against Saint Katherine

CARDIFF, Calif. – In a tale of two games, the SDC softball team split with Saint Katherine on Tuesday dropping the first game 10-2 before taking the nightcap 18-4.

 

The split gives the Hawks a 4-2 record on the season, and a 3-1 series win against the Firebirds.

 

SDC scored in the first inning of Game 1 as Bailey Romano's single brought home Josie Nicolas. Saint Katherine answered though with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, including a 3-run homer by Sabrina Gonzalez. She hit three homers for Saint Katherine in the DH. The other run the Hawks scored was an RBI double from Tori Harris that scored Nicolas but it wasn't enough.

 

In Game 2, the Hawks scored seven runs in the first highlighted by a homer from Emily Espino, a 3-run shot to left-center. Pitcher Madelyn Jacobs helped her cause with a solo shot to left as the Hawks went back-to-back.

 

SDC scored two runs in the second, four in the third and fourth, and one in the fifth, a solo homer by Elizabeth Wlson. The Hawks scored their 18 runs on 20 hits and limited the Firebirds to four hits in the game. Jacobs pitched a complete game with four strikeouts and four hits.

 

The Hawks are scheduled to play Marymount California on Friday, but weather may postpone of cancel the DH against the Mariners.
