[Softball] Nekola transfers to CSM for softball, nursing

OMAHA, Neb. – Madeline Nekola signed her letter of intent Sunday to transfer to the College of Saint Mary to continue her education and play collegiate softball with the Flames.

The 5-10 outfielder is the daughter of Thomas and Heather Nekola and is from Bellevue, Neb. She graduated from Omaha Bryan High School in 2017 and has been studying at Metro Community College since.

At Bryan, Nekola was one of the top athletes at her high school. She was named Female Athlete of the Year her senior year. She earned all-conference honorable mention all four years in softball as well as all-state honors her senior year. She was all-conference honorable mention all four years in basketball and also played soccer for two seasons.

"Maddie is a very talented athlete," CSM Coach Carolyn Todd Bray said. "We've been recruiting her since my first year here at CSM. She's so strong, so passionate about competing and has a ton of raw talent. I'm looking forward to seeing what she can do during her career here.

"I'm glad she's decided to continue pursuing her dream to come to College of Saint Mary and study nursing here."

Nekola says Jenny Finch is her favorite sports hero and that her greatest sports moment to date is hitting her first home run back in 2013. Outside of softball she enjoys hanging out with family and friends, watching Netflix and playing with her dog.

She's excited to join the CSM softball team this semester and follow her dreams of becoming a nurse.
